Students visit La Moye Prison

Highlands Professional Residential Childcare Level 5 students had a great visit to La Moye Prison to support the delivery of the youth justice unit.
This has also been supported by guest speakers from the probation service.
The learners got to have a tour of the prison inclusive of the control room to gain insight on security (this is a rare opportunity), the education centres, kitchen, cells as well as the outside areas.
The learners also got to meet a young offender who has a long sentence of 12 years for a category A offence.
They held a question-and-answer session to support and enhance their understanding around sentencing, differences of youth custody to adults and to find out the support that is on offer to prevent reoffending.
The learners really enjoyed this experience, and it was great for Greenfields staff to bring back some ideas to discuss for with their team to help transitions between the secure estates.
