Principal’s Update
Thank you to the staff involved in the open evening for parents and carers last week. It is crucial to keep parents/carers well informed so they can work in partnership with us to ensure the best outcome for our students.
This week, the SLT will be focusing on teaching learning and assessment; checking on progress so far against our quality improvement plan, but also assessing how the strategy is being implemented in the more medium term.
We have the Pride of Jersey this week where we are sponsors for Teacher of the Year. We also have the Our Stars Awards for the Government of Jersey where I am reliably informed that lots of nominations have come through for Highlands colleagues, I’m very much looking forward to attending that on Thursday night. If you get an invitation, please do try and attend, I’m sure you will have a very enjoyable evening.
Today I attended a long service celebration having completed 25 years working for the public sector of Jersey. I can’t believe that I’ve been teaching and working in education on-island for 25 years and also with my time in London well, let’s just say it’s been a long time. Every year I learn new things and I realise all the time how lucky I am to have joined such a wonderful profession.

At the end of this week, we will have two sessions of the whole staff meeting. The focus of the staff meeting will be an update on college-wide business as usual, but we will also be looking at sustainability in more depth with Rob Moy and Bethanie Lloyd, our sustainability coordinator. There will be opportunities to engage in developmental groups on the sustainability work.
So here we are almost at half term and the dark mornings and cold evenings have settled in. Make sure you take care of your well-being, taking regular breaks, engaging in some of the activities that have been organised by Mike Watkins on our behalf.
I hope you have a very enjoyable week and look forward to spending time with you on Friday and the whole staff meetings.
Best wishes,
Jo.
