š A Warm Welcome to Our New Students
This week marks the start of our induction programme for new students. Itās been wonderful to see the warm welcome extended by all staffāthank you! The variety of activities and support on offer is impressive, and already today Iāve heard plenty of laughter and seen many smiling faces. A fantastic start to their journey with us.
š ļø Apprenticeship Enrolment Success
Last weekās Apprenticeship Enrolment Evening was a great success, turning online applications into confirmed enrolments. Apprenticeship numbers are looking strong this year. Weāre grateful for the continued support from the Government of Jersey, which is helping to fund fees and wagesāan important investment in our local economy.
š Celebrating Leadership Achievements
I had the pleasure of presenting CMI Leadership Qualification certificates last week to a number of students, many of whom are our own colleagues. Itās truly inspiring to see the dedication and commitment shown by staff who are balancing full-time work, personal responsibilities, and advanced study. Congratulations to all involved!
š Cyber Security Review with JISC
This week, the Senior Leadership Team will meet with JISC, who have completed a full cyber security review of our digital systems. JISC are the UKās leading experts in technology for Further and Higher Education. Weāll be discussing their findings and working with Terry Walters to identify next steps in our ongoing efforts to protect and strengthen our digital infrastructure.
š Freshersā Fayre ā Connecting Students with Opportunities
Donāt forgetāthe Freshersā Fayre takes place this week in the Hall. Employers and volunteer organisations will be on hand to share part-time and full-time job opportunities, as well as voluntary roles that students can take up alongside their studies. Please encourage students to attend and explore whatās on offer.
šļø Oakfield Sports Facility ā Opening Soon
Weāre excited about the upcoming opening of the Oakfield Sports Facility later this month. This redeveloped spaceāformerly shared with Hautlieu Schoolāwill provide excellent opportunities for our students. We received the Service Level Agreement on Friday 5 September and are currently reviewing proposed changes to access and governance. Weāre hopeful that all snagging will be completed in time and that the final arrangements will work well for all users.
š§ Dementia Jersey Abseil Challenge ā Sponsor Jo!
As mentioned at last weekās staff meeting, Iāll be taking part in the Dementia Jersey Abseil Challenge on 21 September. Dementia Jersey is the islandās only dedicated charity supporting people with dementia and their carers. Theyāve also supported our staff through recent well-being sessions. Thank you all for the energy and care youāre bringing to the start of term. Iām confident our new students will thrive here at Highlands College and University College Jersey, thanks to your dedication and support.
