Principal Recruitment and Peer Review Update
Principal Recruitment
This week we were pleased to welcome four candidates from the UK for a two‑day selection programme. During their visit, they have met with staff, students, employers, colleagues from CYPES, and took part in a wide range of activities designed to give them a full insight into our Highlands community, as well as testing their skills, knowledge, and experience.
The process is being led by Rachel Baxter and Keith Posner, with valuable support from the Association of Colleges. We expect to be in a position to share the outcome towards the end of next week at the earliest.
Highlands is a fantastic college, and relocating to Jersey is a significant step for any candidate, so it’s important they have the time to make an informed decision. Please be assured that the senior team will update you as soon as we are able to.

Peer Review 2026
Thank you to all of you who contributed to the Peer Review. We’ll be able to share more detailed insights once the evidence and judgements have been externally moderated. The week went well and the support and challenge from our colleges at UCM and TGI was stretching and interesting. We are expecting the report to be available at the beginning of May.
- The peer review identified strong, consistent practice across the college, with a clear culture of authenticity, inclusion and high expectations embedded throughout teaching and learning.
- Relationships between staff and students are a notable strength, creating safe, purposeful environments where learners feel confident, supported, and motivated.
- Staff demonstrate strong professional behaviours and make effective use of industry links, ensuring curriculum delivery is relevant, applied and shaped by island and employer needs.
