New Course Offers
Head of Adult and Community Education:
We will shortly be advertising the position of Head of Adult and Community Education. Sadly, Traci O’Dea will be leaving the college in July. Traci and the team have transformed the adult and community provision, developing new courses, implementing the online enrolment process, marketing and raising the profile of ACE. I would like to thank Traci for her hard work and dedication during her time here at Highlands and best wishes for the future.
CACHE Early Years Review:
This month saw a review of the CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship, led by Jo Broderick. Jo has previously supported the full time childcare provision and has developed a strong, supportive partnership with Highlands. As part of the review process, we invited employers from the childcare sector in to discuss the current model and the new qualifications that will be implemented for the part time provision in September 2024. The feedback was extremely positive and the recommendations from Jo’s report have helped to inform the new curriculum planning to launch in September 2024.
New Counselling course offer:
Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling offers both progression for the level 4, but also increases employment opportunities
Chartered Management Institute:
September will see the launch of a new study format for the CMI leadership and management qualifications. Adopting a more structured and streamlined delivery model, staff are encouraged to seek line manager approval in the first instance or email hp@highlands.ac.uk for information on the different courses available which start in September 2024.
Teaching Assistant Training:
A new training initiative for teaching assistants has been officially launched, offering a training package which allows for progression at both Level 2 and 3, including either functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English. This training is supported by the CACHE assessment centre team who will be delivering the Supported Teaching and Learning qualifications and Carol Tyrer’s team who are responsible for the Math’s and English delivery.
New CISI programme offer:
Highlands Professional will soon be offering the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments courses, starting with the Investment Operations Certificate and Investment Advice Diploma. These courses are face to face and delivered by Paul Groden, accredited training partner of CISI. This a huge step forward in providing face to face recognised qualifications for the islands finance sector
