Learner’s Conference and Wellbeing Week
Hot on the heels of a week filled with wonderfully informative CPD sessions, the Teaching and Learning team at Highlands College has also coordinated a two-day Learning Conference for staff.
Main focuses were on multilingual learners, creating a culture of positive behaviour and on coaching.
Many thanks to our truly inspirational keynote speakers: Bob Craig, Eowyn Crisfield, Rosie Sharp and Jonny Kay, as well as our very own Paul Spencer, Jo Gueno, Paul Bisson and Mike Watkins who delivered breakout sessions on artificial intelligence, multi-lingual learners, sustainability and positive mental health and wellbeing, respectively.
Speaking of Mike, we want to thank him for organising the Wellbeing Week. There was a week of peaceful reflection and low energy activities that culminated in a mindboggling cryptic scavenger hunt. Thanks must go to so many people for helping make it a success:
-
James Bennett – Musical Bingo
-
Michaela Lazarescu – Barista Experience
-
Mike Nield – Mindfulness
-
Patrick Hogge & Ben Mason – Low Water Fishing
-
Sam Drayson-Le-Tissier for his eclectic array of board games
-
Café Connect staff – Patrick, Frankie, Jorge, Christine, and Mary for catering for us, and hosting the coffee and pastry mornings that enabled us to catch up, shoot the breeze and reconnect.
-
The Culinary Arts Catering Team
-
Michaela for hosting the Musical Bingo as well as many student and staff events throughout the year.
-
Mihai for cooking up the best fish and chips supper.
-
Walter for staffing the Bar and keeping everyone lubricated – I think I mean hydrated. As well as Jordan and Jill who keep those three in order.
-
The Facilities Staff – Firmino, Sergio and Luis for setting up all the rooms. As always it has been an extremely busy time of year, and there were 3 major events in 24 hours in the hall they had to set up.
-
Fallon for delivering the Autism Awareness Training as well as the Government of Jersey, Carbon Literacy Team.
