Hairdressing and Beauty Team Joins Forces for the 25th Jersey Dragonboat Race
The Highlands College Hair and Beauty team, in collaboration with cross college staff members, embarked on an exciting adventure by forming a crew of 17 participants, expertly organised by their Hairdressing tutor, Lisa Lawless. This dynamic team, known as “The Viking Academy,” recently participated in the 25th Jersey Dragonboat Race, which took place on Saturday, September 16th, 2023.
The highly-anticipated festival, generously sponsored by VG, served as a significant fundraising event for Jersey Hospice, attracting a multitude of enthusiastic participants and spectators alike. The event unfolded at the picturesque Albert Pier, where teams from across the island gathered for a full day of thrilling Dragonboat races and festivities.
Lisa Lawless, serving as the captain of The Viking Academy, led the team with unwavering determination and an unmissable sense of Viking spirit. Dressed in Viking hats and armed with delicious food and drinks to stay energised, the team displayed remarkable camaraderie throughout the competition, facing off against formidable opponents in three exhilarating heats.
While The Viking Academy did not secure a spot in the finals, they left the event with heads held high, having made significant progress with each race. Their impressive performance demonstrated their commitment to the challenge and their ability to hold their own against fierce competition from other Dragonboat teams.
The 25th Jersey Dragonboat Race 2023 marks the beginning of an exciting journey for The Viking Academy and the Highlands College team. As they reflect on this memorable experience, they are already looking forward to future Dragonboat team events, eager to continue their pursuit of excellence and camaraderie in the world of competitive Dragonboating.
