Absence – why it’s important
People Services has launched Absence Matters on OurGov – a dedicated hub with everything you need to record and manage absences confidently. This will help you identify any trends of absence within your team, whilst ensuring the right support is put in place once a member of your team returns to work.
It includes guides, templates, and four new reports that can be automatically run to help track absence trends in your teams.

What you need to do
Managers should record all team absences promptly in MyView and send any sickness details, including dates and reasons, to HR at tyler.lemasurier@highlands.ac.uk. Accurate recording ensures colleagues receive the right support early, reducing long-term absence and helping recovery. This will contribute to your team’s overall happiness, health, and productivity.
The main causes of absence are stress and anxiety, musculoskeletal issues, and colds and flu. Recording these absences correctly triggers timely support such as Occupational Health referrals or Wellbeing services.
Please remember: sickness absence data is sensitive personal information under the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 and must only be used appropriately.
