As we continue this month’s spotlight on speech and language awareness, we’d like to share some practical tools to support your conversations with students. Below, you’ll find suggested sentence starters to encourage dialogue and promote effective communication:
- Instigate: “I would like to start by saying…”
- Probe: “What evidence do you have to support this idea?”
- Challenge: “To challenge you, I think…”
- Clarify: “Can you clarify what you mean by…?”
- Summarise: “The main points raised today were…”
- Build: “I agree and would like to add…”
