Celebrating Our Excellent Apprentices
Highlands College is excited to celebrate the exceptional achievements of its apprentices at this year’s Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony, taking place on 22 October 2024 at 6:30pm in the Great Hall. A total of 16 prestigious awards will be presented, recognising apprentices who have excelled in their respective fields and demonstrated outstanding dedication.
The evening will be hosted by Lewis Andrews, Production Journalist at ITV Channel, and will begin with a welcome speech from Tony Tyrer, Assistant Principal for Employment, Planning, and Skills. A motivational speech will follow, delivered by Stuart Penn, Head of Skills Jersey.
The awards cover a broad range of industries, including Carpentry & Joinery, Automotive Studies, Welding & Fabrication, Electrical, Plumbing, Culinary Arts, Hairdressing, and Beauty. They celebrate individuals who have excelled in their fields, showcasing exceptional dedication, skill, and perseverance.

- Carpentry & Joinery: Keith Leonard Pomroy Memorial Shield for Apprentice of the Year
- Carpentry & Joinery: Ian Christianson Award for the Student Showing the Most Progression
- Automotive Studies: James Le Bourgeois Award for Apprentice of the Year
- Automotive Studies: Outstanding Achievement in Motor Vehicle Services
- Welding & Fabrication: Malcolm Simms Memorial Trophy for Apprentice of the Year
- Welding & Fabrication: Outstanding Achievement Award
- Electrical: The Adrian Lynch Memorial Shield for Apprentice of the Year
- Electrical: CEF Award for Outstanding Achievement
- Painting & Decorating: Gary Aubert Memorial Award for Apprentice of the Year
- Plumbing: Apprentice Plumber of the Year
- Plumbing: Connor Le Geyt Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement
- Culinary Arts: Apprentice of the Year Award
- Culinary Arts: Outstanding Achievement Award
- Hairdressing: Level 2 Apprentice of the Year
- Hairdressing: Level 3 Apprentice of the Year
- Beauty: Apprentice of the Year

With around 430 learners enrolled in apprenticeship programmes, being selected as an ‘Apprentice of the Year’ or receiving an ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award is an incredible honour. These awards showcase the dedication and resilience of these apprentices.
This event not only celebrates the apprentices but also recognises the employers and mentors who have supported their journeys. A special thank you to the sponsors for their generous gifts to the award winners.
