AMD Awareness Month
February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Awareness Month.
AMD is an eye condition that affects your central vision. It’s one of the most common causes of sight loss in the UK. We can help you understand AMD and support you if you’re diagnosed.
.
What is AMD?
AMD affects the macula, a small part of the retina at the back of your eye. It causes problems with your central vision – the vision you use to look straight at something. AMD can make it harder to read, recognise faces and watch TV.
There are two main types of AMD:
Dry AMD develops gradually and leads to a dark or missing area in your central vision.
Wet AMD is rarer. It can develop very quickly and cause rapid changes in your central vision.
