🔹Behind the Lanyard
In this week’s Behind the Lanyard we hear from Rob Moy who is embarking on an exciting adventure in Kenya!
🌍 Rob’s Off to Kenya with JOA! 🇰🇪
Hey everyone! I just wanted to share a little update – I’m about to embark on an amazing adventure with Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA), heading to Ukambani, Kenya to help build a sand dam!
Living in Jersey, we don’t have to think twice about where our next drop of water comes from, but for many communities in Kenya, it’s a daily struggle. This sand dam will provide a year-round water source, helping local farmers grow food and support their families—it’s a small but life-changing project!
With just a few days to go, the excitement (and, let’s be honest, a few nerves!) is really kicking in.

Our team is a mix of tradespeople, medics, project managers and educators. We’ve been training hard – including a freezing February sea swim to test our teamwork!❄️
Now, we’re ready to get stuck in, work alongside the local community, and take on an experience that’s about so much more than just building, it’s about people, resilience and making a real difference.
Wish me luck—Kenya, here we come! ✈️🌍
Day 1 – Monday 3 March
Good morning team! First full day ahead meeting the Mulunga SHG for lunch – it will be truly inspiring.
But first, malaria tab down the hatch, breakfast to fuel the day (7:30), and JOA T-shirts on! 😎💪🇰🇪
Keep an eye on our socials for more about the project!
