Principal’s Update
Thank you again for your active engagement at the first of our Strategic Plan development workshops/focus groups on Friday. The quality and volume of feedback was great. We are convinced that the College’s values need an update to reflect the future and our changing organisation. We will return to this work with you, in July.
The fundraising last week was hugely successful. I haven’t got the total figure yet from the events, but it will certainly be over a £1000 and with the £1300 already banked we are making excellent progress towards our £15k target. Colleagues and students made the atmosphere so wonderful at the events and we made the news!
Highlands students get on their bikes for a good cause – Jersey Evening Post
SLT’s meeting agenda this week includes Finance and a regular update from Skills Jersey on their work. Skills Jersey was recently reorganised with some mentors becoming researchers and others working with school children in secondary schools to avoid them becoming ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’ (NEET) in the future.
This week I’m meeting with External Relations to update them on work with Utalii College in Nairobi. The Marketing and Events team are busy putting the final arrangements in place for Highlands College Sixth Form Festival and P.R.I.D.E of Highlands College 6th Form Awards.
We have the Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning speaking at the awards as well as Glenn Noel, founder and owner of Ganache, an alumnus of the Academy of Culinary Arts. Glenn has worked all over the world, at some of the best restaurants, and is also a leader in chocolate making. It’s inspiring for our students to see how far they can go with the education and skills they achieve here.
With re-take GCSE examinations in Mathematics and English this week, it will be an anxious time for hundreds of our FE students. I appreciate the role you all play in supporting them and developing their mindset to see they can achieve these qualifications which open many doors for them in future careers and training. It’s not just a leading role for their subject teachers, but a role for us all to ensure they are there and ready.
Have a great week. Best of luck in getting students to the finishing line!
Jo
