Estates Update
Confirmation – Saturday 17th Feb 2024 – JEC – Powering Down Electrical Supply
Please note, the previously announced cutoff of Electricity on the Highlands Campus on 10th February has been cancelled. The proposed time is now 7:30am – 4:30pm on Saturday 17th February, however, this may extend or decrease depending on how the work progresses. The positive news is that it will allow the college to evaluate the Emergency Lights, Fire and Access / Egress Systems and IT Resilience.

Reminder of Fire marshal procedures
- Upon the activation of an alarm all Fire Marshals should proceed immediately to the nearest Fire Marshal point on your floor (Red Fire Marshal Box: Contents – Hi-Viz Tabard, clipboard and forms, current evacuation procedures), then put on the hi-visibility tabard and take the clipboard and instructions and start to clear the floor room by room. (If you are a fire marshal and you arrive at the Fire Marshal point and the contents are gone then evacuate the building as normal ensuring and persons under you care leave the building also.)
- On your designated floor/s systematically check each room (including toilets) to ensure that all staff/students evacuate immediately. Direct all staff/students to the main assembly point for that building by the nearest exit (Included in current Fire Evacuation Procedures).
- Control, count and record all persons evacuated from your floor and report any missing persons to the Fire Officer (Duty Caretaker or first Fire Marshal to leave the building and reach the assembly point).
- Despatch responsible persons (if required) to entrance roads to direct emergency vehicles to point of fire and to prevent any other vehicle movement.
- Direct any first aiders to assist where necessary.
- Check staff/lecturers have assessed situation of disabled persons in their care (Horizontal evacuation*) and where those persons are situated. Log where those persons are and if any further assistance is required for disabled evacuees, from refuge points, upper levels etc. Inform Fire Service of the horizontal evacuation immediately on their arrival.
- If during “out of hours”, try, if possible, establish the location of the fire – and whether brigade has been called. PROVIDED IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.
- Liaise with Fire Officer/Fire Brigade Officer in charge of emergency on arrival at evacuation point to verify that your floor is clear, and all staff/students have been evacuated.
- Only when the Fire Brigade have instructed the Fire Officer/Fire Marshal to do so may you authorise the calling of ‘All Clear’ at the assembly points after which it is safe to re-enter the buildings.
- “Record of Action” form to be completed and forwarded to the Operations Manager/Fire Officer as soon as the event is over.

RECYCLING
Every building now has recycling bins see location map below.
As you can see, we have produced 3575 bags of waste so far, however only 140 bags have been recycled.
Although September started off well, we have had a decline, with December being very poor.
Could you all make a concerted effort and encourage your students to use the recycling bins.
