Soroptimist International Jersey support the Highlands Foundation
We were joined by Christine Spink, Celia Jeune and Jean-Marie Gavey from Soroptimist International Jersey so they could present students with equipment purchased on their behalf by the club.
For three years, the College has benefited from a generous annual donation of £4500 from the Soroptimists to our Foundation. The ladies from SI Jersey hope that by helping to remove financial barriers to education they might encourage more girls to enrol on courses, and ultimately enter careers, that have historically been male-dominated.
Each year, female students studying STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) are invited to apply for funding. As part of the application process, students must be able to justify their request and evidence that it will enhance and support their learning, e.gs include purchasing appropriate equipment, funding a relevant visit or additional learning opportunities etc.
Pictured here with their tutors are Eleesha Walker and Belle Fosse, who are both studying DEC! in the Built Environment (Design Engineer Construct! combined with BTEC in Construction and the Built Environment) and two of our electrical apprentices, Goretie Luis and Elisha Byrne.
