Research Matters
On Friday I attended an online Learning and Research Network event with our Guernsey and Isle of Man partner colleges. I was impressed by our contribution made by Jess Garner and Sue Le Masurier. I am also looking forward to our Research Conference in May. Great work everyone.
Strategic Plan
This week Rob Moy and Kate Hobbs are meeting with representatives from the voluntary sector and next week we have a Governors workshop on the Plan. So far, we have engaged with staff, students, employers, schools, head teachers, Higher Education providers and parents. I will report back to you at our staff meeting on Friday the 14th February.
Jersey Progression Qualification Re-Development
Departments are making good progress with only one area in the red category and powered up to catch up 😊.
Project Management
Raf, our new project manager has identified eight major projects in implementation phase across the College. He is drawing up excellent governance guidance for us all to align with GoJ practice and best practice in the private sector. This will support us all in ensuring the right resources are in the right place and we meet deadlines, so that workload doesn’t create unnecessary pinch points during the year.
Business as Usual
At SLT we are focusing on safeguarding with Nicola Brown reporting on Student Life activities and impact. We will also be reviewing Health and Safety; we are a pro-active community in relation to health and safety and Ben Smith is working on a central register for all risk assessments in all categories from trips to student applications which require separate assessment.
Personal
I was grateful to see the sun out yesterday and to walk along the beach. If you see me talking to myself with my dog, Gordon, it will be me practicing my French for my evening class. I use coffee break French, a podcast on BBC sounds if you are interested, give it a go. I’ve moved to intermediate class now, but I think my tutor is being overly optimistic. It’s better to live up to people’s assessment than live down eh?
Have a great week.
Jo
