🔹Principal’s Update
Dear Staff,
I am excited to share that I will be flying to London this afternoon (Tuesday) to attend a Buckingham Palace Garden Party, recognising contributions to Education and Skills. I will be accompanied by Sean O’Regan, former Director of Schools and Colleges, and other leaders from CYPES. My youngest daughter, who has just completed her university studies in Edinburgh, will join me as my plus one. This is a self-funded trip.
I found the JISC Artificial Intelligence online session very interesting. It highlighted the significant benefits of AI in work productivity. As professionals in education, we need to stay updated on these changes to maximise benefits and minimise risks to learners and learning.
At the Senior Leadership Team meeting this week, we will focus on health and safety, with a detailed update presented by Ben Smith, who is back from paternity leave. Welcome back, Ben!
We will also meet at the end of the week to finalise the curriculum planning process for part-time and full-time course delivery in the next academic year.
Don’t forget to wear green on Thursday in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week. This is part of our comprehensive health and well-being strategy, led by Mike Watkins. We also had the Brain Power Foods on a budget organised by Kelly Freitas this afternoon.
This weekend, students and staff from Lycée Hôtelier College Dinard will arrive and participate in various activities in Hospitality and Culinary Arts.
Next week, I will attend the Heads’ briefing regarding the closure of the consultation phase for the new grading and job descriptions of our valued Education Support staff. Additionally, I will participate in the recruitment of a senior post in government in support of Justice Home and Affairs.
Staff and Student Voice
This week, students are invited to engage with the Jersey Development Company and their delivery partners to share ideas on the new Fort Regent project. I encourage you to release your students to attend this event, as it is a major project that could improve facilities for the entire island community
We have two full staff meetings on Monday the 19th May. Please let Sam know if you have any items to raise that I can address. I will provide updates on all major projects and the wider government context.
In addition, I met your union representatives about the Succession Planning Project, SLT meet them termly. Chris Hopkins asked me to let staff know he is available for support and guidance for prospect members. His email is Christopher.hopkins@prospect.org.uk.
I hope you have a lovely week and can enjoy some sunshine.
Best wishes,
Jo Terry-Marchant
