🔹Lend a Hand, Light Up a Day – Volunteer for Children’s Day
JERSEY Children’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday 13 July in Howard Davis Park. Nearly 60 Island charities, services, entertainers and businesses are due to attend the free event between 10am and 5pm.
The annual event is dedicated to recognising and celebrating Jersey’s children and young people and advocating for their wellbeing and rights. The 2025 event will feature free activities for the community to enjoy, alongside performances from youth performers on the park stage throughout the day.
To help the public on the day the Children’s Day Team is looking for volunteer marshals to work with them to provide a first point of contact on the ground for questions and queries. If you want to be a volunteer for Children’s Day on Sunday 13 July please email jerseychildrensday@gov.je by Monday 30 June. A full briefing pack of what is required will be sent to you in advance of the event.
Staff and personal security will be leading on the safety for the day. Your role will be to help with any tasks needed to make sure that the day runs smoothly.
Here’s a quick overview:
Welcoming the public
You’ll greet people at one of the three park entrances. You’ll let them know what’s happening and tell them about the lost child service. You may also need to count how many people are arriving.
Supporting exhibitors, entertainers and caterers
Throughout the day, exhibitors, entertainers and caterers may have questions. This could include directions, timings, or even knowing where the closest toilet is. You should do your best to answer their questions, but you can always ask the team for more information.
Helping the public
The public may have also have questions for you. As above, you’ll do your best to answer, but you can always ask the team for more information.
Managing the space
You’ll help staff to manage the way people are moving through the space. This could involve making sure people are queuing safely for popular attractions or helping members of the public make the best use of the space.
Keeping the event safe and tidy
You’ll remind members of the public to take their rubbish with them.
You’ll also stay vigilant for anything that looks suspicious, or any lost children. If you see anything that concerns you, you should contact a member of the team immediately. We will work with security to address it.
Packing up
Staff will support everyone arriving in the morning. We will need your help with packing up.
Catering and refreshments
The Butterfly Café will be providing catering for volunteers between 12 to 2pm.
The catering is free of charge to all volunteers but you will need a Children’s Day lanyard. The Children’s Day Team will provide you with lanyards on the day.
