🔹Did You Know?
In this week’s did you know – we’re sharing a few cross-college updates that could impact you!
Employees’ Children in the Workplace
The purpose of the Children in the Workplace Policy is to ensure that there is a consistent approach in the management of children who are brought into the workplace by both CYPES employees and/or contractors working in CYPES sites.
There are many risks associated with employees bringing their children into the workplace and this policy outlines the arrangements that must be in place to ensure the health, safety and welfare of them and any others who may be affected. Any child brought into work premises is classified as a visitor. Arrangements must be put in place to reflect this.
All managers must ensure:
- the policy is accessible to all employees, agency staff, volunteers, and contractors, and that it is adhered to
- risk assessments are undertaken and shared with relevant persons
- adequate arrangements are in place to minimise risk and impact on others
- the effectiveness of arrangements in place are monitored, reviewed and updated when required
- the child is not brought into the workplace if any risks cannot be mitigated, and support employees in the short term, to ensure alternative arrangements are put in place
- incidents involving children in the workplace are investigated and learning gained from the outcome
All employees and others bringing children into the work place must:
- adhere to this policy
- gain permission from their manager, prior to bringing a child into the workplace
- support in the risk assessment process
- cooperate with any arrangements put in place
- report any concerns they have
- report any incidents or near misses that occur as per the CYPES Incident Reporting and Investigating Policy
Please ensure you have read the policy carefully for more information and to make sure you’re aware of your responsibilities as a CYPES employee.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to them in case of an emergency.
Porters Lodge Revamp
As part of the wider OH&S Fire Review (which was conducted by CYPES) on all schools and college estate, a few alterations to enhance safety routes and support the wider fire strategy have been commissioned.
The drawing below (Porters Lodge) fire compartment has been commissioned with works commencing over the Easter holiday.
The old reception desk will change to become a room, making an ideal location to make the Caretakers more central to college estates.
We want to keep you abreast of the building works, so that you are not bewildered by a new entrance once returning from Easter break. We will continue to update you on developments across campus.
