🔹Apprenticeships Week
In the week before half-term, we proudly celebrated National Apprenticeship Week 2025, shining a spotlight on the incredible impact apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses, and the wider economy.
Throughout the week, we shared inspiring stories on our social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, launched a brand-new apprenticeship logo, and engaged with our community to highlight the value of apprenticeships.
Here’s a recap of what took place:
🔹 A Fresh Look! – We kicked off the week with the launch of our new Highlands College Apprenticeship logo, setting the stage for an exciting week of content.
🔹 Next up, it was Stephen’s Story – Former electrical apprentice Stephen shared his experience of studying at Highlands, while encouraging future apprentices with some inspiring quotes! “The effort you put in now lays the foundation for your future success.”
🔹 Bleue’s Career – Former art student Bleue Tilstone shared how a temporary role sparked a passion, leading to a career in hairdressing—one that even took her to Australia!
🔹 Samuel’s Advice for Success – From Kitchen Porter to Award-Winning Apprentice, Samuel Ayoti shared his inspiring journey, reminding apprentices to embrace challenges and make the most of their learning.

🔹 Apprenticeship Opportunities – We showcased the range of apprenticeships available at Highlands, helping prospective learners explore their options.
🔹 Little Oaks Nursery Visit – Our Year 1 BTEC/DEC Construction students hosted a special visit for Little Oaks Nursery, inspiring the next generation through creative activities and hands-on learning.
🔹 Inside the Kitchen – We featured a reel with Culinary Arts apprentice Aiden, showcasing the talent and skill developed in our professional kitchens.

🔹 Friday marked the end of the working week with the Pan-Island Skills Competition – A proud moment for 10 of our Highlands apprentices, who competed against peers from The Guernsey Institute and University College Isle of Man in skills categories; carpentry & joinery, electrical, plumbing, welding & fabrication, and painting & decorating.
